COMMERMORATE…remembrance and respect

Veterans Day is November 11th to honor those who have served in the American military.

Did you know there is also a Veterans Day for dogs? March 13 honors and commemorates the service and sacrifice of American military and working dogs throughout history.

The older veterans, looking back and leading the way for a new generation of veterans.

Happy Monday. Happy Veterans Day to all who served.

I’m grateful to all veterans, Lois and I’m glad the dogs have their day. I didn’t know that.

Thanks, Dan. I didn’t know that about the dogs, either. I wanted to post the dog with his owner but then Googled to see if Veterans Day was for dogs, too. I was surprised–and happy-to see they had their own special day.

So glad that the dogs who serve are being honored too. Two and four legged, they all deserve our respect.

  4. I never knew about a Veterans Day for dogs and that’s very cool. I liked the 2nd picture, it looks like he equipped his bike to look like a helicopter?

I didn’t know there was a Veterans Day for dogs! Very cool.

There’s a big list of businesses that offer discounts to veterans today, as well as lots of restaurants and coffee shops offering free meals and whatnot.

I was pleasantly surprised about the special day for dogs, too. A couple years ago, a monument was installed for dogs at our Veterans Memorial Park, which is so lovely.

We can’t escape the images of war these days, so we might have more understanding of why we have to remember.

  11. We did not realize there was a special day to honor these brave pets-thanks for sharing this story on Veterans Day. We’ve always honored canine soldiers on Veterans Day in the past and posted about a local canine hero from WWII today.

This was something new to me, too. On a whim, I Googled to see if dogs were included in the commemoration today, and was actually very pleased to see that they have their own special day.

In our Veterans Memorial Park, a monument was installed a couple of years ago that breaks your heart–a military dog reaching out to touch his fallen soldier’s helmet.

Everyone honored on their own special day.
